Abstract
In an increasingly specialized and technological world, we often overlook or underestimate the simple and obvious. One example is the crucial role high school science teachers play in inspiring students to pursue science-related careers. It therefore seems appropriate to reaffirm the benefits a dedicated, knowledgeable teacher can have on a student's career choice and to restate the need to recognize high school science teachers for their role in producing America's scientists. This paper is written specifically to draw attention to the role of high school biology teachers in producing the nation's health professionals and to provide up-to-date suggestions as to what advice such teachers should give to present students interested in careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and related mainline health fields
